When we spent two weeks on holiday in Scandinavia, our Berners, Marlee and Tonka, stayed at a kennel that was new to them. It had been recommended by another Berner owner, and I visited to check it out. I liked it because the dogs were taken out several times a day for a run in a securely fenced acre between the kennel and the house. This exercise was provided at a small extra cost, but I felt it was worth it because of the time we were going to be away.
When I went to pick up the dogs, the kennel owner told me they caused quite a panic the first time she let them out for exercise. She had watched them for a bit to ensure they weren’t going to leap the fence, and then began some cleaning in the outdoor runs. When she called the dogs later, there was no response!
After calling and looking frantically, she discovered them inside on her sun porch, lying on the couch. They had figured out how to open the sliding screen door and had made themselves at home!
She said that had never happened before in all the years she had boarded dogs. In the end, she waived the extra exercise fee because she and her son had enjoyed watching their antics so much.
