Rocky and Allegra greet students who come to my music store for piano, guitar and fiddle lessons. In between greetings, when I’m putzing back and forth, they usually stay under my desk.
My piano and voice teacher, Nancy, brought in a new song by a friend of hers, who has written many pieces performed at her church. This piece was composed as a memorial for those killed in the 9-11 terrorist attack, specifically to commemorate the heroism of those onboard Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania.
As Nancy played and sang the song, the other two teachers and I looked over her shoulder at the music and tears flowed from us all. When Nancy paused to snuffle away tears also, Rocky and Allegra came into the studio.
Rocky shoved his way alongside Nancy, put his paws on the piano bench and rested his head on her shoulder. Allegra made her way to the other side and put her head in Nancy’s lap. Both dogs wagged their tails, but slowly, not exuberantly.
